The Walsingham Cell of Our Lady, St Francis and St Clare

Hail Mary, Full of grace,

The Lord is with Thee,

Blessed art thou amongst women,

And Blessed is the fruit of thy Womb,Jesus,

Holy Mary, Mother of God

Pray for us sinners, now,

And at the hour of our death,

Amen

.

The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary,
and she conceived by the Holy Spirit

Behold the handmaid of the Lord,
be it done to me according to your word.

And the word was made flesh,
and dwelt amongst us.

Pour forth we beseech you, O Lord,
your grace into our hearts that we,
to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son
was made known by a message of an angel,
may, by his passion and cross,
be brought to the glory of his Resurrection

Amen.

What is the Walsingham Cell?

It's a local group of Christians who belong to the Society of Our Lady of Walsingham. It is a link between the Anglican Shrine at Walsingham in Norfolk, England - a great centre of Christian Pilgrimage and our parish.

The Purpose of the Society

What are Members asked to do?

The Cell at Hawley Green

The cell was formed on Mothering Sunday, 1986 with Fr. Ivor M Hancock as Superior. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Walsingham and to Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi. The cell consists of approximately 20 members.

There is a shrine in the Resurrection Chapel of Holy Trinity Church to remind everybody of the Shrine at Walsingham and what it stands for. Small votive candles are lit before services, as a sign of prayer for Walsingham and our parish.

Following the retirement of Fr. Ivor in 1996 the role of Superior was taken by the Fr. Martyn Neale SSC his successor as Vicar of Hawley.

Mrs Pat Dallimore is the contact.

Other Cell Activities

From time to time special activities are arranged. This can range from quiet afternoons for study, pray and fellowship, or a visit to a place of interest. Visits to London are arranged which may include a visit to an Art gallery and a London Church for Mass.

In 1990 a party made a pilgrimage to Oberammergau to see the Passion Play. combined with a holiday in Austria.

In 1995 a group made a pilgrimage to Assisi.

In 1998 a group made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

Each year a pilgrimage is made in the Autumn to Walsingham.

At the feast of Corpus Christi in June the Cell organises a buffet supper for parishioners after the evening mass.

The Walsingham Cell also maintains a link with Westminster Abbey through the Society of Our Lady of Pew.

The St Laurence Children's Hospice in Romania

The Cell supports the work of the hospice in Cernavoda by sending a pledged amount of money each month and praying regularly for the children and staff. The hospice cares for seriously ill children, many of whom have Aids or other terminal diseases.
