ADDITIONAL CURATES SOCIETY

Petertide is always associated with vocations and the support of the clergy.  This week and next you are invited to use the special envelopes available to make a contribution to ACS through the parish.  We’ve supported them in their work helping poorer parishes cover the cost of assistant clergy for many years and the need is just as great today.   Mary Kenny has more information.

STRAWBERRY FAYRE - Last Call Dave Powers is pleased to announce the Strawberry Fayre will be held in the Vicarage Garden on Sunday 6 July at 3.30pm.  Tickets at £5 are available from him today.  Do come, as it promises to be a lovely summer afternoon – guaranteed!

MOTHERS’ UNION

Corporate Communion will be this Wednesday at the 7.30pm mass at Holy Trinity.  All are welcome from 7pm when the Blessed Sacrament is Exposed.

ELECTION

Following the Annual Parochial Church Meeting, there are three vacancies on the Parochial Church Council.  We intend to fill these at an election to be held on Sunday 20 July.  Nominations must be received by noon on Sunday 13 July and the ballot, if required, will take place at All Saints’ from 10.15am until 10.45am and at Holy Trinity from 12.15pm to 12.45pm.  Postal votes are available.  If you have already asked for one the ballot paper will be sent to you – if you’d like one for this election only, please collect a form from Dave Powers or the back of church.

LETTER FROM THE BISHOP OF GUILDFORD

The diocesan bishop has reflected upon the dilemma facing the Church of England should women be made bishops.  Although a firm supporter of this move, he appreciates the risk of injustice being done to those who in conscience could not accept this innovation.  His open letter, sent to all clergy and parishes, is posted on the church notice board and makes interesting reading as he calls for statutory provision being made for parishes like ours.  Whether Bishop Christopher’s views will win the day in the General Synod remains to be seen we should all be grateful to him for what is surely a brave stand.

HAWLEY FAYRE – 12 July 12 noon – 4pm

Sponsored by Farnborough Van and Truck Hire

Each year the church takes the lead in the Hawley Fayre. We could do with rather more church stalls to raise even more for the parish.  Please consider running a stall this year.  You can find a stallholder’s application form at the back of church.

Tickets for the Grand Draw are available today.  If you are on the church electoral roll as pack awaits you.  Please sell these tickets and return the counterfoils and money without delay.  You can have more tickets if you like.

EVENSONG AND BENEDICTION

Why not finish each Sunday’s devotion with our regular evening service?  We often get visitors and it would be good to have more people to welcome them.

PILGRIMAGE TO WALSINGHAM

The Walsingham Cell invite parishioners to join them at this year’s residential pilgrimage from Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 September.  The full-board cost is £89.30 in twin rooms.  Danielle will take your booking and explain everything you need to know.  Please speak to her today.

FORTHCOMING HOLIDAYS AND PILGRIMAGES

Book now for Oberammergau  September 2010

Please pick up an itinerary for our holiday pilgrimage to see the famous Passion Play in September 2010.  If you will be arranging your own insurance, you can also pick up a booking form and return it to Fr Martyn with your £100 per person deposit.  If you would prefer to take the company’s recommended travel insurance (which usually offers excellent rates, especially for those aged between 65 and 90 and which can otherwise be hard to get and expensive) you are advised to complete the booking form and return it to Fr Martyn without a deposit at this stage. You will be informed when the premium for trips in 2010 is available.  If you’ve questions, just ask Fr Martyn.

AN APPEAL FOR QUIET

A sign is available saying ‘Talk to God before Mass and to each other after Mass’.   It’s been getting rather noisy before Sunday services lately, so to spare the expense of a couple of signs, please try to keep the noise down when you come in to worship.  Thank you.

RINGERS REQUIRED Our tower is a little depleted at the moment, so if anyone who rings would like to join them or newcomers would like to learn, please let David Leach know on 01276 34991.
FLOWERS IN CHURCH

Anyone is welcome to sponsor the flowers at our churches, perhaps for an anniversary or birthday or in memory of a loved one.  Please speak to Anne Leppard or Joan Dimmick for details.  If you would like a notice placed in this weekly sheet detailing your sponsorship, please give Fr Martyn a written note in good time (preferably a week before the date).  Thank you.

HALL HIRE

You can hire Trinity Hall or All Saints’ Hall all day any Saturday in 2008 for only £90! (conditions and exceptions apply).  Lets by the hour on Saturdays and weekdays are also available.  Please contact Fr Martyn for more details.

ON THE LOOKOUT

We get quite a few people at church who are with us for the first time.  If there’s someone you don’t recognise in your row, why not encourage them to stay for coffee after the service?  It’s a good way of making them welcome.

OVER 60?

The Friday Club meets every Friday at Ratcliffe House at the almshouses at the A 30 roundabout end of Hawley Road between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.  There are various activities and a break for tea and cakes.  All over 60s are welcome to come along for a visit.  Who knows? - you might want to join us regularly.  Free
DING DONG

Come and join the Hawley Handbell Ringers.  You don’t need to read music is it’s all done by numbers.  If you can count to 4 and recognise numbers up to 12, you can be part of the team who enjoy Thursday evening practices. More information from Una Simpkins on 01276 34250.

YATELEY AND HAWLEY WELFARE TRUST Applications for financial assistance from needy people living in the Parish of Hawley are invited.  Please speak to Fr Martyn in the first instance.
